Firstly, just wondering who are the active members of the map committee lately ?
I think the map committee needs active members like walker, and because of special problems which can arise on maps i think the committee needs at least one top player... like fdkanns or ultra storm or hellraider BMB...etc...(top coloseum or league players) though i guess many of them would not wish to be on the map committee which involves a lot of work and and inevitable hassle and arguing.
Also i think not only should AWBW users give nominations but also have a big part in choosing maps by voting for the various categories.

I think a good way to do things is by starting a design map forum topics to get the balls rolling and have some debate. For example, I would like to see a variety of map types being under consideration.
As well as tried and trusted map types we should include a sensible proportion or percentge of different or "unusual" map types.
We could do with a list of map types and some percentages.
For example some people dont like misile silos, but we should have provision for some small percentage of maps with silos, so not to have them totally excluded.
Also we should try to get as wide a representation of map-makers as possible. This i believe is an important point in keeping some users interested in awbw .. those who like map making.

Blanci, nothing in your post has anything to do with what the thread is about. If you have ideas or suggestions for how to organize design maps, etc, please either make a separate topic or post it in a more appropriate one. This topic is for nominating maps worthy of A- Rank and S-Rank.

Although I'm not a top player, now I'm even the first name to appear. Are you kidding me ?
Maybe I should think about asking for the "most overrated player of all time" award.

In order to lessen walkerboh's anger:

So... 1 nomination per month. At this rate, we might get one single nominated map!

well walker complains no-one has nominated maps for the S/A rank scheme.

I already said that i think we, the users, would like to vote for maps we like and enjoy (not simply nominating). That might really interest people, and get them participating. There are a lot of users who can see good maps, and have really play tested them.

If you see a good map and play-tested it, nominate it lol

there's nothing stopping from doing that

nothing at all

and then, either the map comitee says "yeah you're right it's cool" or "there's a problem here or there that makes it less balanced, it can still be improved"

this is literally how it works

We tried allowing users to vote for their own S and A rank maps before; After weeks of nagging and complaining by a couple of more vocal users, I organised a positional voting system to give the idea a shot. It was a lot of hard work but the results were ultimately retarded, to say the least.

Chaos City somehow became the highest voted map on AWBW. This is an asymmetrical map, with high starting funds, poor terrain variety, and a questionable FTA counter. I mean REALLY? The map might have a little bit of nostalgic charm, but it isn't the best map on AWBW. It isn't even fair, let alone tournament-worthy.

The only thing gained from public voting was a stark reminder as to why we have a Map Committee in the first place. Ordinary users are not permitted to choose maps for A-Rank, for the same reason that children are not permitted to play with loaded firearms. They are not qualified, they are not trustworthy, and the end results are usually messy and tragic.

I think it goes without saying that this is closed. I take this to mean that everyone is okay with Map Committee's selections regarding A-Rank and S-Rank, so I don't want to hear any complaining when (if) we get around to doing it!
